Record Breaker!
Global Collaboration project sets new high score

     By Joshua Wang

The second leg of the 2012 Flat Classroom Project has broken the 225 barrier with a record number of 226 videos.

For the first time since the debut of this project, every category and subcategory has been filled with at least one video. FCP 12-2 smashes last school year’s record (187) by 38 videos and 2011’s figure (82) by 143 videos. The master lists of final videos were finalized on December 3rd, 2012.

“Students had to create a video under one of the 11 technology associated topics,” explains Vicki Davis, cofounder of FCP. “The topics include Workflow Software, Virtual Communication, and Web 2.0 among others.”

The topics were further subdivided into several themes: The Story, Innovation, Invention & Prediction, Social Entrepreneurship, First Person Narrative, Group Stories, and How we Live (Play).

“We chose these themes so the videos would give the viewers a well-rounded idea of the topic and the various issues surrounding it,” continues Davis. “It also renders a variety of video formats – not just documentaries.”

Indeed, a brief browse of the videos will supply one with a treasure of information. From PSA’s to interviews to short movies, each topic has 17-25 videos that makes the topic interesting and clear – even to those who have little or no experience with technology.
